Happy Winter Trailblazers!
Changes abound, so let’s hope there is some change in the weather! We could use the snow!
I wanted to update everyone on some of the important changes coming at Summit View Elementary. Ron Schumacher has shared some of the specific budget constraints we will be facing next year with SAC and the staff. While nothing if definitive yet, of one thing we can all be sure: things will be A LOT different next year. The challenges faced by Douglas County, coupled with the state budget constraints, will put increased pressure on parent organizations like PTsO to bridge the gap. I know we can all agree that the most important thing for our students is that these changes impact them as little as possible. I want to be frank and upfront about the needs of this PTsO as we attempt to raise twice the money we have raised in the past year.
We need your positive attitude! One thing we have tried to achieve is a sense of community and fellowship in the halls at SVE. We are ALL trailblazers, we are ALL students of SVE, we are ALL friends. As challenges loom, please remind yourselves and your students of this: at the end of the day, we ALL want what’s best for our school!
We need your attendance! PLEASE, plan on attending your SVE Carnival next Friday February 26th from 5-8. There will be tons of games and fun…all for $10! Unlimited games, prizes, popcorn, cotton candy with a $10 wristband! Bring your friends and neighbors (parents don’t need wristbands, only children!)! Plan on attending the Second Annual PTsO Auction at The Old Blinking Light April 30th! This was our largest money maker last year!
We need your TRASH! Our first boxtop check this year was over $1800!! If we really push hard and save those boxtops, we are on track to be NUMBER ONE IN THE STATE! That’s free money! Please don’t forget to send those boxtops in with your students!
We need your understanding! Fundraising may look different at SVE next year. No decisions have been made, and we need your input! The next PTsO meeting will be March 16th at 8:45 in the library. Our April meeting will hopefully be BIG as we detail the specific budgetary needs of this school and our fundraising plans. Your participation in those meetings and discussions insures that you have a say in your school!
We need you to volunteer! Amanda Ford and Tara Chambo are still looking for parents willing to volunteer ONE HOUR of their time for the Carnival. Kristin Stonebarger is hard at work on the auction. Kim Hildebrand and Kim Holmes are working hard to finish yearbook…we need YOU!
In the past I have heard, “these cuts don’t really affect my student, so why should I be involved?” Be involved because you care about this school and the staff who work so hard to keep it from affecting your student. And the changes that are coming, will affect every child at Summit View. But together, we can do this!
Summit View Rocks!
